One of the toughest challenges facing boards today is finding new board members. And not only finding new board members but finding board members who meet the needs of your board and your organization.
As we think about the seasons of the year, we can relate that concept to the seasons of change every board member goes through on a board of directors. In spring everything is fresh and new, and we plant and nurture our gardens to grow. Similarly, new board members bring fresh perspectives to our boardrooms and we give them guidance to grow in their roles.
We are well into the first quarter of the year. As a board, have you done your CEO’s performance review and set up 2018 performance expectations for him/her, and therefore your organization?
You may have a wonderful board of directors – nice people who are friendly, show up to meetings, get along with each other, and respect the CEO. These are all good things. However, do you have people with the right knowledge, skills, and abilities to lead your organization to success?
